Numbers surged significantly at Gunnedah this week, with 1,973 cattle yarded, a massive jump of 1,100 head from last week. While all major buyers were active with steady competition, the overall market plateaued, showcasing a plainer yarding with limited prime lines on offer. Lighter cattle grades trended softer.
Here are the key market highlights:
Young & Feedlot Cattle
- Prime Young Cattle (Processors): 420c to 520c/kg.
- Yearling Steers (Feedlots): Up 10c to 15c, making 500c to 574c/kg (averaging 551c/kg).
- Yearling Heifers (Feedlots): Held firm at 460c to 547c/kg.
Restocker Lines
- Light Steers: Held firm, trading from 492c to 651c/kg.
- Light Heifers: Cheaper by 20c+ in places, making 416c to 529c/kg.
Grown Cattle & Cows
- Prime Grown Cattle: 420c to 440c/kg to processors.
- 2 & 3 Score Cows: Held steady between 320c to 400c/kg.
- Prime Heavy Cows: Slightly dearer, hitting 400c to 449c/kg.
- Restocker Cows (Paddock): 290c to 380c/kg.
- Best Bulls: Topped at 370c/kg.
