There are over 430,000 rural water tanks in Australia, as well as over 1,000,000 dams, reservoirs, and other bodies of water. Despite their critical role in keeping farms irrigated, very few of these water storage facilities are monitored in real time.

Farmbot, an Australian agricultural technology company, is attempting to change this.

The Farmbot team has developed a range of remote monitoring technology products that are built to withstand even the harshest Australian outback conditions, based on more than a decade of genuine farming experience.

These products provide farmers with a clear view of their water storage infrastructure and allow them to remotely activate pumps and other machinery in real time. It is a practical agricultural technology that assists farmers in managing their water supply more sustainably, resulting in better environmental outcomes and higher financial savings.

While connectivity has previously been an issue for projects such as Farmbot, the service now makes use of a robust satellite system provided by Inmarsat, a world leader in satellite communications, allowing farmers to easily manage their water supply remotely. The technology is now available and can be used regardless of how far out in the boonies your farm is.
