Young cattle producers with ambition, ability, and a passion for shaping the future of Australian agriculture are being encouraged to apply for Cattle Australia’s prestigious National Beef Leaders (NBL) program.

Now entering its second year, the NBL program is the leadership initiative of Cattle Australia (CA); created to identify, develop, and empower the next generation of leaders in the grass-fed beef industry. It aims to build a strong and sustainable future for one of Australia’s most vital agricultural sectors by investing in the people who will drive its progress.

Open to young professionals, the program targets individuals already established in their careers who are ready to take the next step into advocacy, governance, and strategic leadership. With just seven positions available nationally, the program is competitive, but for those selected, it offers unparalleled development, exposure, and mentorship.

As a father of three young boys, who are passionate about the farm, it’s opportunities like these that excite me for the future of farming and the potential for substantial growth in the industry.

Cattle Australia Chief Executive Will Evans said the program is centred on ensuring the beef industry continues to attract and retain skilled individuals ready to lead the industry forward.

“By developing skilled and capable leaders, we are securing a strong and sustainable future for the grass-fed beef industry,” Mr Evans said.

“Participants will receive training in advocacy, policy development, corporate governance, industry structures, and media engagement, while also promoting personal development through self-awareness and confidence-building activities.”

The NBL program combines online learning with in-person leadership experiences, including a week-long workshop in Canberra, where participants will meet with government decision-makers and industry leaders to build connections and deepen their understanding of policy-making and sectoral challenges.

The NBL program is about more than skill-building - it’s about ensuring the future of Australian farming is led by confident, capable, and well-connected young people who understand the land and are committed to its future.

The program represents an exciting opportunity for emerging leaders from across Australia’s diverse beef-producing regions. As the industry continues to evolve in the face of environmental, economic, and social challenges, strong leadership will be critical.

With programs like the National Beef Leaders initiative, the future of farming in Australia is being placed in good hands - hands that know the soil, the seasons, and the stakes.
