As Australia steps up its commitment to national emissions targets, farmers are once again in the spotlight, not just as stewards of the land, but as key players in the country’s net zero future.

This November, the National Carbon Farming Conference & Expo in Albury will give producers the tools, insights and confidence to turn policy into practical, profitable action on their farms.

Louisa Kiely, Director of Carbon Management Services and Co-chair of the Soil Carbon Industry Group, says producers are eager for real-world solutions.

“Farmers are hungry for clarity, certainty and practical strategies that deliver results on-farm. This conference is about moving from conversation to action, showcasing what works and ensuring farmers are equipped to be central players in Australia’s net zero future,” Ms Kiely said.

After a two-year break, the event returns in a new format, driven by strong demand from producers who want to understand how carbon markets and farming systems can work hand in hand.

Unlocking the Value Beneath the Surface

A major focus this year is the untapped potential of soil carbon data. Thousands of soil samples have been collected under Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) projects and Ms Kiely says that information holds enormous commercial and research value.

“That data is gold,” she said. “Handled the right way, it can unlock incredible insights for industry, with commercial value flowing back to producers while ensuring farmers retain ownership and control.”

Practical Knowledge from Industry Experts

The three-and-a-half-day program will feature leading voices in agriculture and carbon farming, including:

  • Professor Karen Hussey, Chair of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee
  • Duncan Farquhar, CEO of the Soil Carbon Industry Group
  • Michael Crowley, Managing Director of Meat & Livestock Australia
  • Plus, a number of producers already implementing soil carbon projects on the ground.

The event kicks off with a field trip to Bibbaringa, a regenerative farm near Albury, followed by a dedicated Soil Carbon Day and two full days of sessions covering everything from soil and vegetation carbon to livestock emissions and new technologies.

Why It Matters

For producers, carbon farming isn’t just about sustainability, it’s about opportunity. This conference is set to help farmers find a clear path forward, armed with practical knowledge, trusted science, and a stronger understanding of how to make carbon work for their business.

The National Carbon Farming Conference & Expo runs 3–6 November 2025 at the Albury Entertainment Centre.
Earlybird registrations are open until September 26.
